Professor Kamal Labbassi is the President of the African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment (AARSE), a council member of the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) and the founder of the IEEE-GRSS National Chapter in Morocco. In addition, he heads the Geosciences & Remote Sensing research unit and is the director of the BDAR (Digital Belt and Road) – International Centre of Excellence EO-AWARE at the Chouaib Doukkali University, Morocco.
He obtained his PhD from the University of Pau, France, in 1991. He was a visiting Professor at the University of Nantes, France, between 2004-2005 and 2007-2010. He has served as an expert/consultant in feasibility studies and technical reports for the World Bank and the African Academy of Sciences and as a Peer Reviewer of the GMES and Africa Programme. He is a scientific reviewer for some journals focused on remote sensing, water management, RPTS, and Revue Télédétection AUF.
He has initiated and directed numerous research projects on remote sensing applications involving an extensive network of international partners in geosciences. He has also supervised several dissertations of engineers, Masters and PhD theses and is the author and co-author of numerous publications and scientific papers.
