Prof. Cheikh Mbow is the Director-General of the Centre de Suivi Ecologique (CSE), Senegal and an Adjunct professor at Michigan State University (USA). He previously served as the Director of Future Africa Institute at the University of Pretoria, Executive Director of START-International in Washington DC and senior scientist at the World Agroforestry Center (ICRAF).
Over the past 25 years, Prof. Mbow has been active on development-research and partnerships in Africa. He established and coordinated the GOFC-GOLD Regional Network and was a lead expert for the World Atlas on Desertification. He is a lead author on the agriculture, forestry and other land use chapter in the IPCC’s AR-5 and AR-6. Mbow is now a coordinating lead author for the IPCC Special Report on Food Security. He served on many scientific committees, such as Future Earth (2013-15) and the Agropolis Foundation-France. He has extensively published on various sustainability issues, including transdisciplinary science on food security and sustainable production in Africa. His work focuses on land and natural resources management, food security and climate change.
