Hussein Farah is a Professor at the Technical University of Kenya, School of Surveying and Spatial Science. He is also the Executive Director of Frontier Surveyors and former Director-General of the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development. Prof. Farah holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying and Photogrammetry, a Master’s Degree in Geography and PhD Degree in Water Resources Surveys. He has more than twenty-five years of experience in applications of geo-information and has worked in the public, academic and private Sectors.
Prof. Farah’s research interests are in the applications of geoinformation for natural resources management and modeling and has undertaken successfully extensive consultancy work in the Eastern and Southern African region and published extensively in refereed scientific journals. Prof. Farah contributed to the African Space Policy formulation, Kenya Space Policy and Framework and Guidelines for Land Policy in Africa. He was a member of UNECA Expert Group that produced Fundamental Data Sets for Africa and Geospatial Standards.
Prof. Farah is Council Member of the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. He served as Chairman of the GEO Working Group on Land Cover Mapping in Africa, Member of the Board of Global Spatial Data Infrastructure Society, Member of the Steering Committee of the Global Monitoring for Food Security, Chairman of the International Steering Committee of the Africa Geodetic Reference Frame, Secretary-General of the African Universities Network on Disaster Risk Reduction and Member of the East African Land Administration Network.
